评估,评价的英语_assess与evaluate

一、evaluate 和assess 是同义词，可以互相替代，例如：

to evaluate/assess performance (value)(security)(quality)(promise)(aptitude)……of sth.(sb)

二、judge一般是评价事物或人本身，有时翻译成“评判”，例如：

三、令人困惑的evaluate、assess与judge的替代，例如：

We have to evaluate/judge the impact of this book on children.（我们必须评估/评判这本书对孩子的影响。）

这里judge的评价是重证据的，那么to judge the impact of this book on children 隐含这本书已经出版并有很多孩子看了，可以得到孩子是否受影响的证据了。联想一下judge的另一重要意思是法官根据证据做出判决。

而to evaluate the impact of this book on children 的意思可以是多种可能的：书出版之前的评估、书出版之后的评估。

所以，在科技论文写作中，我们使用evaluate/assess而不是judge，第一，我们一般是分析，而不是demonstrate 证据，第二，我们一般评价的是创新性的技术，也没有证据可用。那么，下面例句的区别就显然了：

In the following section, we will judge the performance of our protocol.（下节我们将评估我们协议的性能。）

现在我们知道，前一句可以出现在论文中，而后一句应该出现在总结报告中。
