英语写作中“合适的”suitable、appropriate、proper等用法

一、这方面的单词比较多，最常用的是suitable 、appropriate 、proper。

二、suitable 是一般“合适的”意思，例如，This hat is suitable for me.（这顶帽子对我合适。）

proper 蕴含“正确与否”，例如：To take this way is a proper choice. （走这条道路是一个合适的选择。）

appropriate 蕴含“调整使之合适”，例如：To set the temperature at 25°C is appropriate. （把温度设置为25度是合适的。）

suitable 可以替代proper和appropriate，但合适对象要指明，例如：To take this way is a suitable choice for the kids.（走这条路对这些孩子是合适的。）To set the temperature at 25°C is suitable for kids.

proper和appropriate 有时可以互相替代，但意义侧重点会变化。例如：25°C is a proper setting. 意味着正确的设置（可能是国家规定）。而 To take this way is an appropriate choice.与To take this way is a proper choice 有语气上的区别，前者应该比较委婉些。但当表达原则观点的时候最好不要用appropriate 替代proper，例如：We suppose that using one more server is a proper solution.（我们认为多加一个服务器是合适的解决方案。）此处用appropriate 替代proper的话观点就不鲜明了。

三、用法模版

（1）它们都可修饰名词，而且proper 只用来修饰名词。

（2）sth. is suitable for sth. 例句略。

sth. is suitable to do sth. 例如：The new device is suitable to wear.（新设置适于穿戴。）

（3）It is appropriate that……例如：It is appropriate that you add more explanation in your paper.（你在文中多加点说明是合适的）

It is appropriate to do sth. 例如：It is appropriate to take more money with you.（你多带点钱合适。）

sth. is appropriate for (to) sth.例如：A mobile device with a large screen is appropriate for elderly people.（大屏幕移动设备对老年人合适。）
